I've been a fan of Schulze for many years and in fact used to correspond with his management in Berlin. I've also been a fan of Lisa Gerrard since I heard the first Dead Can dance 12" 'Garden of the Arcane Delights' way back when. Imagine my glee when they decided to film and release their collaboration from last summers 'Night of the Prog' festival at Loreley on the Rhein. I had tried to go but left all travel arrangements too late :(
Anyhow I bought the special edition 2DVD 2CD from Blahdvd for £25 last week. I've managed to watch all the first DVD and have to say I was mesmerised. Ok an old geezer sitting behind a few synths and a mixing desk isn't a lot to look at but it's one of the few pieces of footage of the great man available. The stage setup pales into insignificance when you think of other acts like Tangerine Dream, Orbital, Chemical Brothers etc.
None of this mattered for me though as I was blown away by the sound quality. I'm using a Yamaha dspax736 av amp and six or seven little Monitor Audio Radius 45 speakers. No sub woofer as yet (it's on order). The sound from this concert is amazing and I'd imagine the house will shake when I get a sub installed. It really is the best 5.1 I've heard to date....mastered at Pete Gabriel's Real World studios I believe.
I thought things couldn't improve until the second track and Lisa Gerrard appeared. OMFG!!!! Not only did the hairs on my arms and neck stand on end......they got up and left the room. Simply stunning doesn't do this justice.
I realise Klaus Schulze is an acquired taste and I'd be the first to admit that some of it is terrbly repetitive but at times this DVD is just amazing.
Just thought you'd like to know.
