View Full Version : New PU7 guy is excited

I'm re-doing my vinyl front end and I'm so damn excited I could plotz. I almost ended up getting a NAS 294 with stock 12 inch arm but I ran in to the Canadian dealer from hell who sold the deck on me and even had me send the money order when it was sold and took over a week of "shipping issues" to say he couldn't get the deck to me (no shit Sherlock, it was already sold) and was sending back the money. I count myself lucky to have got the money back actually. So Plan B was a NAS deck without arm and a PU7. Johnnie says my cart is better of with a 9 inch arm so the 294 was ruled out. Today I tracked down a new Ace Space Deck that I got for a great price, without the arm. And I also ordered a nice PU7 from Johnnie. I'm thinking the Space deck and his arm is going to be a completely smoking rig and I'm better off with this instead of the 294. And I get pictures of a hand made arm sent to me while I wait for it to be built. I haven't heard of any other arm manufacturer providing this service and I'm looking forward to sending them on to my audio buddies and making them madly jealous.
I feel like I fell in love with a mail order bride that I haven't even met.

I hear over on PFM that the NASdecks are half as good as the Linn, but for twice the price....
No, wait, it was the other way round, goes the claim. Twice as good, half the price.
I dunno, the only thing better than a mass market $200 turntable I ever heard was my own LP12, and I love it.
But I could be tempted to philander, based on what I hear...
So good on you! Be sure to tell us all about how great it is.
Yeah, and what the heck is up with our Canadian dealers? Are the TRYING to go out of business? Oh, I know, they're trying to exit the business by way of insurance fire, but without having to light the match themselves!
the canadian dealers pay a lot in import tax and esp shipment fees....it can really add up to a lot of cash extra on there buy in price
arm is just about ready
hopeing to assemble it today
stay tuned for new pics

Cheers back to u Johnnie! Looks fantastic. I don't know much about the technicals behind machining. I can only use my eye and gut instinct. But the parts and workmanship look way above average. Compared to other arms. I can safely say that is the best arm in the world and nothing can touch it!

i rejected the above headshell
the finish was a little dull in sunlight...ive made a new unit and its even better

I see a pattern here. If I tell you the wiring looks like its the best ever done by anyone, maybe you'll reject it and put in some Kondo!!!!!

Nice job, j7, as ever!
Nah, his pet monkey does the machining. Got him well trained he has.
What colour will it be j? One of the great things about your work is its simplicity. The less parts to be out of synch the better.

Lovely
yea keep it simple is always good for the long run !
although all you see is not all that simple...there is a few hidden secrets that the little pixies help with when im in bed:)
A tad more simple than this though don't you think? :) This looks steam-powered.

mmm i see so many like that!!
that anti skate arrangement is only suitable for exactly 1 section of a record ...not the entire surface....simple ball and chain AS arrangements cant even look a pu7 in the face :)

Love the looks of it Johnnie. Lovely. I can't wait to see it in person. I might never use it, maybe I'll just admire it. OK, I'm BS'ing. I can't wait to use it, to hear how it sounds on the SpaceDeck! Should be a sublime UK analog playback system!

P.S. Dont forget to take a ballpean hammer and anvil to it and bend that finger lift!
opps
you wanted curved finger lift ??

Just do like I did with my cartridge, and bend/rotate after it's mounted. That way, you can judge just how you want it with actual reference to the position in which it'll be used.
