I`m a very happy chap this morning, i mentioned on another thread here that untill i saw the work johnie 7did on Nevilles RB250 i had been quite happy with the arm thinking i had done a fair job of stripping the paint off and fitting a new one piece loom.

I never did get around to redoing the mess i made of the cart tags and after several attempts with the iron ended up with wires almost too short to connect the tags, and then seeing the finish that could be achieved on the stripped wand i decided to send it up to j7, he has removed the paint stripper that got into my bearings , added foam damping to the tube. earthed the arm tube and sorted out the messy wires and tags, and then polished the arm to perfection.

It now looks god like:cool:the finish is superb and i can actually feel the difference in the bearings, i wont know how it sounds untill later when i have finished setting it up on the deck and have peace and quite to evaluate how it sounds compared to before, will report back when i have.

A big thumbs up and thanks to j7 for a fantastic job done:^

Well after a few hours listening mucking about with different protractors and vtf/vta i have got to say there is a marked difference between the arm now ans as it was, much better in fact, i suspect the bearing clean up and re adjustment / arm tube damping are a lot to do with the improvement i`m hearing, and thats more of everything, bass seems to have tightened up too.

The finish on the arm is gleaming, especially the headshell, the pics dont do justice to the way it shines.

j7 is a wizard :^

That looks really nice John. I'm glad you're happy with it. Is your wallet a lot lighter now?

Not really Si, johnies prices are very reasonable, and as i had done someof the work needed myself in regard to stripping the arm, my own cardaz loom already in, it worked out a bit cheaper than the website price for stripping and rewiring.

I`m very happy with it:)

Its a Goldring low output Eroica (lx), MC,i swap between this and a ortofon mc15 super mk2, both good carts for the money imo.

The eroica is tough too, it survived a picture landing on the arm while playing, cantilever was turned sideways on and curved but not creased so i was able to reposition it with tweezers, i didnt expect it to sound as good, but you would never know it happened.

Great photos John - it's a great arm. I've just been listening to mine though my new WD Phono3 valve preamp I finished building yesterday - just when you think thinks can't sound any better!

Thanks Neville, i`m lucky in as much as my pre-amp has a superb MC phono stage built in with extra rca sockets for RIAA matching, not that i ever had to use them, i have had a few MC input stages in the past, none of them a patch on the MVX pre`s one.

Was listening to the Neville bros a while ago :D

Well, after spending a week nursing a thumb and 2 fingers that got into a row with the jaws on my lathe chuck (nail lifter jobbie) :(making typing and rolling a smoke a pain,i had little better to do than play vinyl with the newly tweaked by j7 arm.

All i can say was my bearings must have been in a shocking state untill he sorted them because the reduction in surface noise is astonishing, i`m playing records that i would put on and take off after hearing much noise and regarding the vinl as past it and placing it at the back of the pile to be forgotten.

The arm tube damping must also help i`m shure but it is obvious now just how very critical bearing set up is, a truly massive improvement for my T/T.

With the bonus of vinyl i had given up on playable again.:pirate:

That monstrosity of a record clamp is gone now btw:rolleyes:the metal is now in other things, heres my new one.

Thats the thing with the acrylic platters johnie, they can be whatever colour you like, that above is a combination of a blue LED under the platter and a red one shining across, it looks cool in the flesh, kind of ultra violet.:pirate:
