my dogs bollocks never sounded like a big mac , but i love the valves .

i heard a transitor mac at the proffs it was from memory not a bad thing at all , went loud as you liked , but i didnt have the volume turned up or anything like that , ask the proff ????

for some reason the speakers seemed just about on the end stopps , how this happened i dont really know .

i guess you might have had a invite to the proff to hear his new bigger mac amp ?

dont go it will probably cause your wallet some real pain in the future , it sounded better ??? and i wasent listening to it to compare , just to drop of a cd and pick up a couple of leads >

i left me finnacial facilities at home.i had a limited supply of carfully counted beer vouchers.

it has from just a quick listen a fooking great phono stage .

hope you gotta balance control on that amp then woody, other wise the soundstage is gonna be distinctly 'dressed to the right" suits you sir.

Weeeeeel, the speakers changed a while back and are now Kudos Cardea C 20, which I hadn't set out to buy, but I got a very good deal on a pre-production pair & as they sounded so good it seemed churlish to turn them down...

mmmm, okay i accept you like em, and they better than MANY out there, but there are many good speakers around, admitedly not for the price you can pick up a pair of ARC 101's but if you think thats the best loudspeaker then there are many you haven't heard, even if it's the best of it's type (ie a 6 inch two way) then it's still lacking, a good big un will allways beat a good little un, how many gigs you go to that useed on 6 inch drivers?

Oh and the new ART speakers, I doubt you've heard them, nor do i think you should, the price for one will rule you out, but i suspect you'll either love em or hate em.

I thought I would join in on the hifi side…that’s how I got here via my long lost redheaded cousin Woody.

I have become an avid diy guy and love making stuff and experimenting. I am also a tube lover from way back. My favorite source is vinyl.

    My system

1963 Bogen Lenco turntable w/ Thomas Schick arm with Zu Audio Denon 103
1958 Rek o Kut turntable in restoration / no arm yet
    Cinemag step up transformers
    Hagerman Coronet2 tube phono pre
    Phillips cdr
    Audio Research LS7 tube preamp
2 Golden Tube Audio SE40 single ended 6L6 amps
    Haffler 280Xl SS amp
Diy open baffle speakers with Saba 1956 green cone tweeters,Saba 1956 8 inch black cone midrange, Dayton 18 inch woofers in ported reflex enclosure
Diy floor to ceiling bass traps
Lots of various interconnects and diy speaker cable
A closet full of stuff from the past
A couple of records and some cds.

    I will add photos soon.

    Paul:
These are 8" drivers with very big Magnets.ARC were in my view one of the best Active speakers systems you could buy in the 70's/80's, i'm using them in passive mode These are '101', could never afford the '202'.I've had a lot of speekers over the years buy always kept these. No doubt the ART are good but in my view not that good for what they cost or am i lost in space regarding pricing these days, arnt speaker suppose to cost a shilling?

To me speakers these days are technically correct but my ear holes tell me theres something missing.Isnt distortion what makes hifi sound right?
