yes it was dec 09, IIRC, just a right place, right time, sadly i didn't have a tripod, but a handrail and a stabilised lens, 30 second exposure a bit blurry but still worked.

Some good news... I entered three pieces into the RBSA's (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) Open Watercolour exhibition yesterday and had a call this morning to inform me that one piece has won first prize. Selection was by guest judges David Paskett, President of the Royal Watercolour Society and Jane Carpanini, Royal West of England Academy. Here's some blurb from the background to the exhibition.

"The first RBSA ‘Open’ exhibition to focus specifically on watercolour for a number of years, this exhibition promises to showcase the very best in new watercolours from across Britain."

    I'm well chuffed.

Cheers, I took a photo of the painting in its mount and before I finished framing it but it was rubbish so I threw it away. I really struggle to take accurate photos of work that do them justice and need a better camera. Hopefully there will be an image on the RBSA's website after the private view this Thursday evening. I will attend to collect my prize of £150. That has been spent already on a new cam belt for the car. With the new academic year approaching I will need my car so it will be money well spent and peace of mind.

I'm really pleased for you Gary, that's a great result.

Please don't do anything daft like cutting off an ear or you won't be able to enjoy your hifi lol.
    Si.

Yes Umberto, we should all have our own thread to promote something we like doing.

Si, you know van gogh should have worn spectacles in later life but he had little to wrap the specs onto.

Congratulations Gary. I have given up drawing due to failing eyesite, I have a few pics around the house but most I gave away to friends and relations. I wish I hadn't now, it would be nice to be surrounded by my work.

Crappy photos as usual (my camera will not focus, even in macro mode) but you get the idea. These are actual size.

    They're great Gary.
Its says in your post they're actual size, both look about 3" x 2 1/2". Are they really this small or has my monitor scaled them down. If so its even more impressive painting at that scale with so much detail.
