We can be swayed by brand names even when a well known branded product is no better than an unbranded or lesser respected name. In advertising and marketing it's how you can sell a cheaply made shirt for twice the price of a better quality, unbranded one.

I recently bought some Van Damme 4 x 2.5mm speaker cable at a very reasonable price, as rightly or wrongly, I bi-amp my speakers. I needed a cable at a good price, as my man cave layout calls for a relatively long cable length (8 or 10m).
I can't say I am disappointed, but I may upgrade to the 4 x 4mm cable at a later date, but at the moment, I really don't see the point.

As for interconnects, I see that some manufacturers use good quality coax cable to make these. I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron, so I may have a bash at making some. What have I got to lose trying?

The skin on your fingers? The nice finish on the dining room table? You haven't seen my soldering attempt.
