It looks like the drawer in my mac pro wont accept them. Dont want to try one in case it gets stuck.

    They usually do.

the headunit in my Mondeo plays them also.

Ah, thanks for that. My mac does play them. CD trays usually have a recess for the smaller discs but this mac one doesn't - there's a space at the centre. I have a Fiesta so perhaps I should try one in that player.

When bass/mid drivers are measured, are they measured across including their mount (where the screws go) or just to the diameter of the cone including foam/rubber surround?

It's never crossed my mind to look that closely Gary and I would suspect it could be a 'nominal' dimension (varies between OEMs somewhat?).

However, my bass drivers measure 12" across the diameter between the mounting screws, which takes in the diameter of the cone plus its fastening flange (to the cage). (Surround foam/rubber and screw holes amount to the same thing on mine!)

    Does that help?

Nothing measures here as per the specs. My Yamaha NS-200 are 16 cm (6.5") but they don't measure as that. Plus, 6.5 inches is more than 16 cm.

Google results are conflicting. I think the general consensus is to measure the diameter including the mounting frame. Of course in the USA they still use feet and inches so setting a measurement standard is neigh on impossible.

I believe the 'effective piston diameter' used with xmax to calculate the volume displacement for spl levels and such, seems to favour the actual cone diameter plus about 2/3 of the rubber/foam surround width (x2 for each side) as an approximation of the surface area pushing useful air. How much surround you include would depend on its compliance I guess.

Most manufacturers seem to use basket diameter as size, very few will use actual cone size.

I must rush out and buy the new Steps album. Perhaps Johnnie already has it.

A Wolverhampton band, Electus, were interviewed on Black Country Radio tonight. Russell is their lead singer, rhythm guitarist and lyricist and is my middle daughter's partner. Kim sings backing vocals on two tracks on their latest album, Rock & Roll Incarnate Part One and played a part in their music video for the first single, Ticket to Nowhere. Kim has released her own band's first single, 'Falling'. Her band is called Kallon. On the radio show, the presenter kept calling the band Alexa and the two band members, Dave.
