Default USB external HDD case. Cheap off Ebay. Avoid.

Bought a USB3 to 3.5 SATA external HDD case a while back. Recently was wondering why the external HDD was playing up. Kept connecting and disconnecting by itself. After a while i suspected all was not well and took the HDD out and connected it to my external HDD caddy. The drive worked fine so i suspect something in the external HDD case has gone belly up. It was about 10 of ebay IIRC. i have now ordered one from Amazon for the princely sum of 17. Hopefully it will be of better quality.

The old one says 3.5 inch ATA usb 3.0 on the top and is available in black or silver. Avoid.

I have the same one, but a USB2, for a half terabyte (bit?) jobbie. If I lean on it, it loads contents to the screen (Linux/Ubuntu). I suspect a connection fault.

Surely, ATA could be SATA or PATA?
    cheers.....Bryan

I think it was something to do with the electronics inside the case. One of the capacitors looked as though it had been replaced. But i couldn't be bothered repairing it as it was only a tenner.

The new one seems to be of better quality and is working fine.
