    Default inspiration

Form follows function for many bits of hifi kit, diy or manufactured. Sometimes, a bit of aesthetic inspiration is not a bad thing. So I have taken the design of a car as a source of inspiration, one that will not be familiar to most, I would think. It's a Voisin:

Specifically a Voisin C6 'Laboratoire' . The wheels are very much like the idler wheel on my Lenco, and as I am re-building a Lenco GL59/70, I thought it would be fun to add a starting handle and propeller to the finished turntable. The latter has the effect of pushing the record onto the platter mat, for more effective coupling, much like aerofoils on a car. It doesn't weigh much, either, which is an advantage, as I have retained the man springs for isolation, and incorporated a linear vertical bearing which confines the main bearing of the turntable to one degree of freedom, and added a ferrofluid lubrication system to the main bearing,

The propeller on the front of the car turns the water pump! I wanted to copy this. (no, the turntable doesn't have a water pump, but saying that...)
    cheers.....Bryan

Very curious!!! So. . when the car has stopped and the propellor does not turn there is no coolant circulation ......?

They must have overheated a LOT....

It was an early stop-start system but there was a long gap.

Voisin made some lovely looking cars in their day.

Search Voisin in Google Images..... very 'Bugatti Royale' looking, some of them.

the propeller was because he designed aeroplanes as well! He also had a finger in the design of the 2CV ! You can just tell!

Prof, pics to follow, as soon as my tt nears takeoff!
    cheers.....Bryan
