Default SME V Ikeda internal rewire and J5's external cable...

Should be a jump over a stock V with the VDH cable?

Come back to what you think of it and what you find out, what was your reference?
Age of the arm ? not new or ?

Its a minty 2010 arm, as new, one previous owner traded in as he was changing decks and the V didn't get on with his new one.

Mounted it on my Orbe with Dynavector XX2 mk2 cart.
All ran through a 300B SET system with suitable speakers.
Very happy with vinyl, but compared to my digital its a bit lacklustre in dynamics, air and that feeling of 'being there'.

Your ears adjust as they always do once your dialled in, but going back to digital is more of an involving experience.
Should be the other way about!

Looking to max out the vinyl and call it done, hence the question.

    Thanks.

The symptoms you describe is the SME effect, some love it, some find it lacklustre, some call it accurate, I call it overdamped, kills the dynamics, lacks life, sounds 'grey' sure you'll get used to it, but real music doesn't sound like that, now try a PU7 on the deck before you get a rewire, John may offer you a trade in

Does the system need more gain?

    Would say not?
Speakers are 94db efficiency, cant get the volume past 9 o'clock without pictures vibrating on the back wall!

No change in perceived volume from playing through phonostage to playing via digital.
Heard the VDH cable was a bit rubbish, and those that don't like it are hearing the same as what I'm hearing.

"Like throwing a duvet over the speakers" one guy said.
He has reqired his V and is very happy, so will be getting J7 to do mine.

With a black Michell deck I guess its the law to have a V on there.

YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR COTTON EAR BUDS OUT...
Do have an SME V (D) and has not any of these problem you bescribe here and not kill the dynamics on any record, more lift it up more than any arm i had before.
Have an session against my TA Stealth with my Krell Kps 25 sc Creato HR Mod that i had and even if this is one of the best CD players in the world it not had a chance in dynamic and music performance.
Will try an PU 7 one day on a twelve to se but i think i want more than three of them in intrade in that case, SME has gone up 25% and itīs would be crayzy if the PU 7 takes the V then we can buy Skoda instead of Mercedes ofcourse it takes you A to B anyway.

Built an Tangerine Audio Signature in the future that is a step up from my TA Black, their was my thougths that i will rewire a new one with an internal Silver hair wire and an 5 pin to Rca Chord Music, maybe il do this anyway to test.

But il remember that my friend Robert on Analog Tube Audio said that the Silver hair wire was much better than Nordost so maybe i should listen to him anyway and test this.

I used to sell SME products, heard them in many different systems, 9" sounds brighter, but seems to make the music sound compressed, lacking dynamics, okay I'm not talking huge differences, and don't get me wrong, many disagree with me and they are quite entitled to do. Its not the first time I've heard what Gaz describes, although that point is moot now as he's going to rewire it. Initially he will like it, but longer term...don't get me wrong, would I rather have an SME than a Rega but the PU7 brings the Michell to life. Oh and your car analogy, whilst I understand it, think of the PU7 of more as a hand built Morgan than a Skoda which is a parts bin VW.

PS you'd probably hate my preferred sound.

Where does the VdH flexi wire sit in the hierarchy of cables ?
j7 rewired a couple of Hadcocks with it for me, works wonders with a V15III and Jico Neo SAS/S
